Quilt Festival Anyone?

I have not been this excited in awhile. Holly and I are going to the quilt festival on Saturday, and I am wound up like a kid at Christmas. We have times, and strategies, and feel like pros this year. As a matter of fact, Holly is a total pro! Check out this awesome Wonky Little Quilt from Such Designs she made.

She bought the pattern at the International Quilt Festival last year, and the lady who was at the booth was so nice we both remember her. Apparently the pattern was super easy and well written too. Side bar, Holly added that dark strip herself because it looks like a garden path...it was a scrap from her tablecloth we made!

I swear she sent me this picture and ten minutes later the quilt was done. It is so dang cute too. Is anyone else going to the quilt festival in Houston this weekend?

Baby Shower go-to

I don't mean to brag, but being able to sew kind of makes me a rock star at baby showers. The new mom always seems so excited to have something hand made. For most baby showers I usually do a set of three burp cloths.

On this set I am using some left over flannel and some cloth diapers I keep on hand for this kind of thing. Total cost to me? About an hour of my time, and about $1 per burp cloth. Obviously these are not complete, but I was wondering of anyone else has baby shower or other event go-to gifts. What are you making for quick gifts? I'd love a few good ideas before Christmas.

(Sc)Oops I did it again....

Oh I'm so punny! Yes, I did it again. Last week I watched my v-neck video from my Sewing with Knits class from Craftsy. I picked out a yummy charcoal gray cotton jersey, washed dried, cut...then realized I had used the scoop neck patterns. I have to admit I am not too upset, because I like this one even better than the red version.

I have crazy face because I am loving how soft the shirt is.

I wore it to Holly's yesterday and she said my collar looked for professional than the collar she had on the shirt she bought and was wearing. So, now you get a close up of it.

Then, Holly AND Mr. Thinks He Can both said my shoulder seams looked well done. Well, I had to include a picture of that (and again some crazy face). I think I look extra crazy because I have been sick and on Sudafed for a couple days. I even woke up at 4:30 this morning and decided to drive to the beach, then came home at 11 and took a nap. All my patterns are off now and Sunday has felt like two days. I guess I look appropriately crazy.

Sew Date!

My sewing buddy Holly and I are getting back tomorrow after a long hiatus to get our sew on! I have not had a project all week because I have been indecisive and flaky.  The impending date made me man up and pick something.

Have you seen all the awesome versions of the bow shirt from Simplicity 2154? Google it. You will run out and want one too. I am making a purple one. I mean, really purple. I think it is fun. I am also planning on making the cardigan from the leopard print sweater knit I bought a few weeks ago.

Then what? Looking at more dang houses. Boo! At least I have something awesome like sewing with Holly to balance it out!

Fabric.com Epic Fail

What am I doing right now? I have been on hold with UPS trying to find my Fabric.com package because they did not put my unit number on it. Granted I placed the order on September 23. A time line shall we?

September 23, 2012 - Placed an order for four knit fabrics from Fabric.com

September 27, 2012 - Emailed customer service that my order showed pending. I asked with a 48 hour shipping promise, was there a way to know if it had actually been shipped. I promptly got a auto-response that someone was striving to respond within 2 days.

September 29, 2012 - I received an e-mail that one of the fabrics I had ordered was no longer in stock and had been omitted from the order.

September 30, 2012 -  I replied to customer service with:

Guys,

I am really disappointed with the service this time around. I understand inventory runs out, so that is no big deal, but I placed this order a week ago. It should have been shipped already with or without this fabric. What happened? You guys usually have the best service ever!
Thanks,
Stacie

October 1, 2012 - I received an e-mail that my order had been shipped with the UPS tracking number showing it would be delivered October 3.

October 3, 2012 - I went to bed sad and packageless.

October 4, 2012 - I met the UPS man at his truck to receive my package. I was told I had no package, and he gave me the number to his service center. That was the man I was on hold with at the beginning of this rant. He let me know the sender had left out my unit number, and that is why my delivery had not been delivered. During my hold session I confirmed I had actually entered the correct address on fabric.com. The wonderful manager at UPS let me know he talked to the driver and he will be returning with my package within an hour. Yay!

In conclusion: First, UPS rocks! Second, I am irritated at fabric.com for showing me no customer service at all. I got no response to my inquiries on top of everything else. Are free shipping with $35 purchase and a steady supply of coupon codes worth the headache? I am seriously asking myself if I will be a fabric.com customer in the future. Has anyone else noticed a decline in their service?
